David Daughton
Senior Applications Scientist Manager
As applications scientists, we take pride in being a good resource to our customers. I particularly enjoy the opportunity to talk with graduate students, post-docs, and researchers who are trying to get a certain measurement done and help them get the results that they need. It’s exciting to see our customers win grants, publish, and move on with their careers.
Dr. David Daughton is Senior Applications Scientist Manager for Lake Shore, overseeing the company’s Applications Group and their projects as well as developing and maintaining Lake Shore’s application roadmaps.
He received his BS and MS in Physics from the University of Delaware, studying the properties of disordered liquid and solid helium, and his PhD in Physics from The Ohio State University in 2010. Much of his work at OSU involved the study of scanning tunneling microscopy and optical characterization of organic thin films at cryogenic temperatures. He was a consultant to Lake Shore before joining us in 2011.
Dr. Daughton was appointed to his current position in 2023. In addition to managing the Applications Group, he serves as technical point contact for complex product and application questions, attends technical conferences, authors application notes and briefs, and directs and performs advanced proof-of-concept modeling and experiments in support of potential new applications for Lake Shore products, particularly those relating to cryogenic probe stations, Hall measurement systems, and synchronous source measure systems. He also helps customers to configure existing Lake Shore products for a specific application as well as provides support for complex applications involving the characterization of electronic materials and devices.
